Where do I stand? Please click here for a detailed description of my policy work during two terms as your State Representative. For a very general feel of how I approach the issues, click on one of the areas below.
Environment
Healthy air, water, and land are critical to Oregon’s economic future and livability. We must build on our region’s heritage as a leader in conservation, land use planning, public transportation, recycling, and pollution reduction.
- Water quality. The Legislature must close loopholes that allow polluters to dump harmful levels of untreated pollutants such as arsenic, lead, and mercury into our rivers. Our water supply depends on it.
- Air quality. Increasing numbers of Oregonians– especially children–suffer from asthma as a result of air pollution. I support stricter standards for auto emissions and other pollution sources.
- Energy. Energy efficiency programs will help us create jobs, meet the challenge of global warming, and save money on their utility bills. We must help local governments, small businesses, and homeowners access capital to make cost-saving investments in retrofits to save energy. Likewise, Oregon should continue its drive be a leader in the research and production of biofuels, wind, geothermal, and solar energy.
- Land use. Oregonians remain committed to the values that underlie our land use system: protecting farmland, containing sprawl, preserving natural areas, and public participation. I will defend these values as we update the land use system to reflect new realities.
